What Laura did this week: Painter was a tenacious force in the defensive half for the Norse this week, leading the team to a pair of hard-fought wins in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. On Friday, Painter and the NKU defense held Maryville to just seven shots in a 1-0 Norse victory. On Sunday, Painter’s corner kick in the 36th minute led to Danielle Hogue’s game-winning goal in a 3-1 win over Missouri-St. Louis. The two victories helped NKU take the 2009 GLVC regular-season championship and the top seed in the upcoming GLVC Tournament.
Up next: Painter and the 12th-ranked Norse now move on to postseason play, hosting Rockhurst on Sunday, Nov. 1 in the quarterfinal round of the GLVC Tournament. Kickoff is schedule for noon from Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder, Ky. On Oct. 11, NKU won the regular-season matchup between the two teams by a 2-1 score.
