What Andrew did this week: Montgomery started his NKU career in style, scoring three goals and adding an assist as the Norse took two victories in the seventh-annual John Toebben Classic. On Friday against West Virginia Wesleyan, Montgomery opened the scoring, taking a pass from Braden Bishop on the left side and firing a shot to the right post, helping NKU to a 3-1 win. In Sunday’s match against Lake Erie, Montgomery touched the twine twice in a matter of two minutes as NKU scored five unanswered goals in a 6-1 decision.
Interesting fact about Andrew: Montgomery is one of three Irish-born players on the NKU roster, joining veteran striker Steven Beattie and freshman back Paul Andrews. Montgomery is not only a talent on the field but behind the bench as well, as he holds a Level 2 coaching badge from the Football Association of Ireland.
What’s next for Andrew: Montgomery and the Norse hit the ground running next week, opening Great Lakes Valley Conference play at Southern Indiana on Thursday before closing out the week in non-conference action at Findlay on Sunday.
