WILDER, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team put on an offensive clinic on Sunday as eight different NKU players notched goals in a 10-0 defeat of Saint Joseph's.
The Norse (8-2, 4-2 Great Lakes Valley Conference) started the scoring when
Kelly Sullivan picked up a loose ball inside the box and slid it back to
Amie Noll for a 15-yard blast, giving Noll her first goal of the year just 98 seconds into the game.
The goal would hold through the halftime, after which NKU got on the board early once again when
Ashley Warndorf took a pass from
Brandi Doss and beat SJC (1-10, 0-6 GLVC) goalkeeper Sarah Croskey to find the twine for the second time this season in the 47th minute.
Freshman
Jessica Page added a tally of her own in the 56th, after Doss and
Samantha Sutkamp teamed up for a tic-tac-toe passing play that ended with Page's third marker of the year.
Warndorf added her second of the game 10 minutes later, cleaning up a
Kara Costello rebound to extend the lead to four and officially open the floodgates, as the Norse would score six goals during the next 10 minutes.
Maggie Smith, Sullivan,
Kara Costello,
Hannah Wissel and
Kelly Snead would all put shots in the net as NKU went on to its most dominant win of the season. The Norse outshot the Pumas, 35-1, as neither
Angela Healy nor Samantha Glass had to make a save in defense of the NKU net.
The 10-goal outpouring was the most since Sept. 9, 2001, when the Norse hung 12 goals against Wheeling Jesuit en route to the NCAA national semifinals.
NKU returns to action at Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder next weekend, hosting Missouri-St. Louis on Friday and Southern Indiana on Sunday.
