KENOSHA, Wis. – The Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team accomplished a feat that few Great Lakes Valley Conference teams could when they found the net against Wisconsin-Parkside. Unfortunately, the Norse could not hold off the Ranger attack, falling by a 2-1 score in the GLVC Tournament championship.
Meredith Novak struck first for the Rangers (16-0-2), getting a pass from Megan Haberlein to score her 14th goal of the season in the 30th minute.
The 1-0 score would hold through halftime, until Kendall Day brought the Norse (15-3) level with an unassisted tally, her sixth of the season.
Both teams got chances late, as Megan Owens from UW-Parkside and Kristi Hofmeyer from NKU had shots hit the crossbar. However, a late foul against NKU set up a free-kick opportunity which Kahili Cheng cashed in with just 52 seconds remaining in the contest to give the Rangers their third GLVC title.
Angela Healy had five saves for NKU in the loss.
NKU now awaits selection to the NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament, to be played this weekend at a site to be determined. Selections will be made on Monday and announced on NCAA.com.
