SOMERS, Wis. – The Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team suffered its first setback on Friday afternoon, falling in its Great Lakes Valley Conference opener to No. 17 Wisconsin-Parkside by a 3-0 score.
A two-minute span in the first half represented the best offensive opportunity the 11th-ranked Norse (3-1, 0-1 GLVC) had in the game, with
Kendall Day and
Lauren Franzen each getting clear shots at the net. Ranger goalkeeper Cassie Glodowski, however, was up to the task each time. Following the second attempt, the Norse had a pair of corner kick chances, with
Kelly Sullivan putting a shot of her own off the post.
UWP (5-0, 1-0) head coach Troy Fabiano was able to rally his troops for the second half. The Norse attempted their final shot of any kind in the 48th minute before the Rangers took complete control of the contest by outshooting the Norse 14-1 in the second stanza.
The first goal came in the 72nd minute off the foot of Meredith Novak, who put home a pass from Megan Haberlein for her fifth marker of the season. Six minutes later, Novak used a free-kick opportunity to serve a ball in to Caitlin Moon for her first goal of the season.
Shannon Becker added an unassisted tally in the 88th minute for the final result.
UWP's Glodowski made three saves in net for the victory.
Angela Healy made one save for NKU.
NKU will conclude the weekend's action on Sunday afternoon at Lewis.
