WILDER, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team didn't score a single goal en route to their 1-0 victory over Quincy in Friday night's contest. The Norse didn't have to.
NKU (4-1, 1-1 GLVC) won on the strength of an own goal when a Quincy defender picked up a loose ball in the penalty area and walked it into her own net in the 69th minute. The Norse were able to hold off the Hawks (4-3, 1-1 GLVC) for the final 21 minutes to secure the win.
The Norse hung tight with the Hawks throughout the contest, and despite being outshot 14-11 on the game, the Norse picked up five shots on goal to Quincy's four. NKU goalkeeper
Angela Healy was up to the task, making four saves to secure her first career shutout.
Quincy netminder Toni Eye had five saves on the night.
The offensive chances came from the usual places, as NKU's
Kendall Day had five shots on the game, three of which went on net, and Quincy's Becky Fleming, the 2007 GLVC Offensive Player of the Year, took six shots in the game.
NKU is now 10-3-1 against Quincy all-time.
NKU will wrap up the weekend's action on Sunday afternoon when the Norse host Missouri S&T at noon.
