HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team looks to rebound after a weekend split when the Norse travel to take on region foe Ashland on Wednesday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Norse (6-2, 3-2 Great Lakes Valley Conference) had an up-and-down weekend against GLVC opposition, knocking off defending GLVC champion Drury, 3-1, on Friday before falling on Sunday to Rockhurst, 1-0.
Wednesday will mark the final non-conference matchup of the regular season for NKU. The Norse will play four of their final six GLVC contests at home, beginning with Sunday's game against Saint Joseph's.
CHANGE OF VENUE: Due to construction on the Ashland campus, Wednesday's game has been moved from the AU Soccer Field to the Ashland Community Soccer Stadium.
A WORD ABOUT ASHLAND: The Eagles enter Wednesday's contest sporting a 5-5 record, including a 2-3 mark in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, after dropping three of their last four decisions. Ashland is led by Casey Snyder, who has a GLIAC-leading 11 goals. The 11 goals also ranks 20th in the nation statistics. Krista Herbst stands in net for the Eagles, boasting a 1.42 goals against average and an .808 save percentage. The Norse lead the all-time series, 5-1-1, with Ashland's only win coming in the first round of the 2004 NCAA tournament.
PASSING INTEREST: The Norse remain solid distributors, claiming 24 assists on their 23 goals. Two NKU players,
Amanda Mason with seven and
Kelly Sullivan with four, are among the top five in the GLVC in assists.
THAT'S WHY WE'RE HERE: Senior goalkeeper
Angela Healy has had a relatively easy go in net this season compared to her opposition. While the Norse have a shots-on-goal percentage of .593 (73 shots on goal in 123 attempts), the NKU defense has kept the opposition's average to just .295 (28 SOG in 95 attempts).
