WILDER, Ky. - Four players netted goals for the Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team during a 5-1 victory against Findlay on Sunday night at the Town & Country Sports Complex.
Amanda Mason,
Kendall Day,
Kara Costello and
Kelly Sullivan each tallied goals for NKU, which improved to 3-0. The Norse also benefited from a Findlay own goal when an Oiler defender accidentally kicked the ball into her team's net in the first half.
Mason started off the NKU scoring at the 15:34 mark by finding the back of the net with a shot from 10 yards. Day extended NKU's lead to 2-0 at the 23:43 mark with a goal that was assisted by both Mason and
Kelly Snead.
NKU's advantage increased to 3-0 in the 44th minute when Findlay defender Brianna Milne, trying to clear the ball in the box, inadvertently directed the kick into the Oilers' net.
Findlay scored at the 78:47 mark on a goal by Sara Jones, but NKU responded five minutes later when Costello's 10-yard shot found the back of the net. Sullivan and Mason each were credited with assists on that goal.
NKU closed out the scoring in the 88th minute when Sullivan netted her second goal of the season off a rebound. Snead picked up the assist on the play.
The Norse, ranked 14th nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, finished with a 23-10 advantage in shots. NKU goalie
Angela Healy notched two saves and did not allow a goal in 70 minutes of play.
NKU begins Great Lakes Valley Conference play Friday afternoon with a contest against Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha, Wis. The Norse conclude the two-game trip Sunday at Lewis.
