Norse women's soccer extends winning streak to six with 2-1 victory over Rockhurst

WILDER, Ky. – Emily Martin and Kelly Sullivan each scored goals as the Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team extended its winning streak to six with a 2-1 victory over Rockhurst at the Town & Country Sports Complex on Sunday.

Amanda Mason, Hannah Wissel and Morgan Price all recorded assists for NKU, which improved to 11-2 overall, 8-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse also moved into a five-way tie for first place in the GLVC standings with Indianapolis, Bellarmine, Quincy and Drury.

Martin gave NKU a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute with her third goal of the season. Mason assisted on the goal, and the Norse took that 1-0 advantage into intermission.

Sullivan struck at the 67:43 mark by sending a shot past Rockhurst goalie Alyssa Miller to extend NKU's lead to 2-0. Wissel and Price were credited with assists on Sullivan's second goal of the year.

Rockhurst answered with a goal by Abby Davidson in the 71st minute to cut the Norse lead to 2-1, but NKU's defense responded by shutting down the Hawks the final 19 minutes. Norse goalie Rachel Wood collected the win and had one save.

NKU finished with a 17-5 edge in shot attempts. The Norse also owned a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks. Rockhurst dropped to 6-6-1 overall, 5-4-1 in the GLVC.

NKU hits the road next weekend for GLVC contests at Drury on Friday and Missouri S&T on Sunday.
