EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Northern Kentucky University women's basketball team dropped its third consecutive game with an 85-76 loss at Southern Indiana on Saturday afternoon.

k
Ellen Young scored a game-high 30 points as Southern Indiana (9-2 overall, 2-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference) won its eighth consecutive game. Southern Indiana shot 51.9 percent from the field and defeated 20th-ranked NKU for the first time since Feb. 3, 2005, when the Screaming Eagles pulled out a 60-59 win against the Norse in Highland Heights, Ky.

NKU had knocked off Southern Indiana four straight times since that loss in 2005. The Norse still own a 34-18 lead in the all-time series with the Screaming Eagles, including a 17-7 advantage in the PAC Arena.

Casse Mogan led NKU (3-3 overall, 0-2 GLVC) with 19 points, while teammate Jessie Carmack netted 15 points. The Norse made 49.1 percent of their shots from the field and were 8-for-16 from 3-point range. Carmack made five 3-pointers in six attempts.

NKU made 54.2 percent of its shots from the field in the opening 20 minutes but trailed at halftime by a 39-37 score. Young took over for Southern Indiana in the second half by scoring 21 points.

NKU gained a 48-46 lead with 15:47 remaining on a basket by Brandi Rayburn, but Southern Indiana responded with an 8-1 run to take a 54-49 advantage on Young's 3-pointer with 14:07 left on the clock.

Mogan's jumper with 2:10 remaining cut the Southern Indiana lead to 74-71, but Lauren Meneghetti countered by draining a 3-pointer with 1:43 left to extend the Screaming Eagles advantage to 77-71.

Carmack buried a 3-pointer on NKU's next possession to make it 77-74, but Young responded by hitting a jumper with 1:16 left to give Southern Indiana a 79-74 cushion. Amie Newhart then sealed the win by making six consecutive free throws in the final 46 seconds.

Newhart and Meneghetti each finished with 16 points for Southern Indiana. Rachel Lantry added 12 points for NKU, while teammate Whitney Levering scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds. Rayburn dished out game-high five assists for the Norse.

NKU plays host to Saint Joseph's at 7 p.m. Thursday in a non-conference game inside The Bank of Kentucky Center. NKU is a member of the GLVC East Division, while Saint Joseph's is in the GLVC North Division. The two teams will meet in a GLVC game Jan. 30 at Rensselaer, Ind.
