EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Paige Nuelle scored a goal in the 61st minute to give Southern Indiana a 1-0 upset win over Northern Kentucky University in women's soccer play Thursday night.

Nancy Newcomer started the play by crossing the ball into the box to Nuelle, who finished with a goal. Nuelle's goal snapped a scoreless tie, and Southern Indiana held off No. 14 NKU for the upset.

Southern Indiana (2-1 overall, 1-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference) dominated the opening 45 minutes, outshooting the visiting Norse by a 13-3 margin. The Lady Eagles were unable to find the back of the net, however, and the contest went to intermission without a score.

In the second half, NKU (1-1 overall, 0-1 GLVC) fought back and finished with a 9-3 advantage in shots. Southern Indiana goalkeeper Stephanie Bodamer, however, stopped four NKU shots on goal. Bodamer finished the match with five saves as she recorded her first shutout of 2009.

As a team, the Eagles held the Norse without a shot for the last nine minutes of the contest to defeat NKU for the first time since 1999. NKU owned 10 consecutive wins against Southern Indiana going into Thursday's game.

Prior to Thursday, Southern Indiana's last win over NKU came on Oct. 8, 1999, when the unranked Lady Eagles upset the third-ranked Norse, 2-0, in Evansville, Ind.

NKU goalie Rachael Wood played all 90 minutes and collected six saves. The Norse play a non-conference road contest at Findlay at 10 a.m. Sunday.
