FLORENCE, Ala. – The Northern Kentucky University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the North Alabama Classic on Friday, losing three-set decisions to both Christian Brothers and 13th-ranked Truman State.
In Friday's opener, Christian Brothers closed the third set with a 5-0 run to pull out a 25-23 victory and complete a sweep of NKU. The Lady Buccaneers (5-1) won the opening two sets 25-21 and 25-23.
Kim Nemcek led NKU with 16 kills against Christian Brothers, while 
Sarah Drennen added 10 kills and a .318 hitting percentage. Freshman setter 
Jenna Schreiver recorded 32 assists for the Norse, who attacked at a .126 clip for the match.
Chelsea Clark paced the NKU defense by collecting 15 digs. Kelsey Green led Christian Brothers with eight kills.
In the nightcap against No. 13 Truman State, NKU hit just .074 and lost by scores of 25-15, 25-16, 25-23. Nemcek finished with nine kills and five blocks for NKU (3-3), while teammate 
Noelle Peterson added six kills.
Truman State (5-1) attacked at a .221 clip for the match to defeat NKU for the first time. The Norse had defeated the Bulldogs in their previous two meetings in 1999 and 2002.
After falling behind 9-3 in the second set, NKU rallied and eventually pulled to within 17-16. Truman State, however, closed the set with an 8-0 run to take a 25-16 win.
NKU concludes the two-day event Saturday with matches against North Alabama and California (Pa.).
