HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Amanda Mason scored two goals in Friday's Great Lakes Valley Conference contest to help the Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team defeat the University of Illinois-Springfield, 3-0.

The Norse struck early as Mason scored her sixth goal of the season in the sixth minute of play from a Danielle Hogue cross. Nearly an hour later, Mason scored again off a Laura Painter assist. Megan Frye rounded out the scoring with a goal of her own at the 64:24 mark, assisted by Taylor Jennings.

The Norse dominated field possession for the majority of the match, as they outshot Illinois-Springfield 18-5. The Prairie Stars played solid defense for most of the match but were unable to convert an offensive counter attack into a scoring opportunity.

Rachael Wood had two saves on the night for the Norse, while Kelli Kubal collected seven. Wood has only allowed two goals in her eight games of play.

The Norse improved to 7-1-1 overall on the season, 6-1-0 in the GLVC. Illinois-Springfield dropped to 1-8 overall, 1-7 in the GLVC. The win extends NKU's home unbeaten streak to 25 games.
