Taylor Jennings scored an unassisted goal in the 73rd minute to give the Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team a 1-0 victory against Missouri-St. Louis on Friday night.
Rachael Wood recorded her 11th shutout of the season and had one save as NKU extended its winning streak to eight and improved to 13-1-1 overall, 12-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse are ranked 20th nationally in the latest NCAA Division II poll and No. 3 in the Midwest Region.
Jennings, a freshman from Reynoldsburg, Ohio, started the winning play by stealing a Missouri-St. Louis pass in the backfield. She finished by sending a shot into the net for her first goal of the season, and the NKU defense held off the Tritons to notch the road win.
Missouri-St. Louis dropped to 7-6-2 overall, 5-6-2 in the GLVC. NKU is now 18-2 in the all-time series against Missouri-St. Louis.
NKU concludes the road trip Sunday with a contest at Maryville. The Norse will then host a first-round GLVC Tournament contest Oct. 31 at noon against an opponent that will be determined after Sunday's games.
NKU is now in sole possession of first place in the GLVC standings after Wisconsin-Parkside lost at Drury on Friday night.
NKU is the defending GLVC Tournament champion and has won a total of seven titles. The Norse also captured GLVC Tournament championships in 1998, '99, 2000, '01, '02 and '05.
