Amanda Mason scored her 15th goal of the season as the Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team captured the Great Lakes Valley Conference regular-season title with a 4-0 victory against Maryville on Sunday.
Mason netted NKU's first goal just five minutes into the contest off assists from
Kelly Sullivan and
Hannah Wissel.
Megan Frye and
Sarah Smith also scored goals before halftime as NKU built a 3-0 lead and coasted to the road victory.
Rachael Wood recorded her 12th shutout of the season for NKU, which won its ninth consecutive game and improved to 14-1-1 overall, 13-1 in the GLVC. The Norse earned the top seed in the upcoming GLVC Tournament and will play host to eighth-seeded Drury at noon next Sunday at the NKU Soccer Stadium.
Allison Ponzer also added a goal for the Norse, who are ranked 20th nationally in the latest NCAA Division II poll and No. 3 in the Midwest Region. NKU held a 16-6 advantage in shots and a 9-1 edge in corner kicks.
Maryville dropped to 3-11-2 overall, 3-10-1 in the GLVC.
NKU is the defending GLVC Tournament champion and has won a total of seven titles. The Norse also captured GLVC Tournament championships in 1998, '99, 2000, '01, '02 and '05.
