NKU women prepare for GLVC showdown against No. 11 Indianapolis on Saturday night

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University women's basketball team plays host to nationally ranked Indianapolis at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in a Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division showdown.

Indianapolis is 4-1 overall, and the Greyhounds are ranked 11th nationally in this week's NCAA Division II poll. NKU has won four consecutive games and is 5-2 overall, 1-0 in the GLVC.

NKU holds a 40-16 lead in the all-time series against Indianapolis. The Norse are 24-6 against the Greyhounds in games played in Highland Heights, Ky.

THE LAST TIME AGAINST INDIANAPOLIS: On Feb. 20, 2010, Samantha Meissel scored 24 points as Indianapolis completed a season sweep of NKU with an 80-69 victory in The Bank of Kentucky Center.

Jessica Canary added 18 points and 10 rebounds for Indianapolis. Sarah Fenneman scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Greyhounds.

Katie Dewey dished out eight assists for Indianapolis, which swept a regular-season series with NKU for the first time since the 2002-03 campaign.

Casse Mogan led NKU with 21 points. Rachel Lantry added 15 points for the Norse. Indianapolis finished 38-for-44 at the free-throw line as four NKU players fouled out. Meissel and Canary each netted 10 points in the first half as the Greyhounds built a 35-24 lead.

AGAINST RANKED TEAMS: NKU's only game against a ranked team so far this season was against then-No. 16 Charleston (W.Va.) on Nov. 19 in Louisville, Ky. Charleston pulled out a 48-46 win in that contest.

NKU ROLLS PAST USI: Casse Mogan scored 21 points to lead four NKU players in double figures as the Norse posted a 71-38 victory against Southern Indiana on Thursday night.

Sadie Bowling added 12 points for NKU. Ellen Holton and Stephanie Hodges both scored 10 points for the Norse, who held Southern Indiana to 25.5 percent shooting from the field. Kendra Caldwell grabbed 12 rebounds for NKU, which is now 35-19 all-time against Southern Indiana.

NKU built a 28-19 halftime lead by holding Southern Indiana to 22.2 percent shooting from the field. The Norse then scored the first 12 points of the second half to extend their advantage to 40-19 and cruised to the victory.

MIGHTY MO: NKU junior guard Casse Mogan has scored in double figures the past six games. She leads the Norse in scoring at 16.9 points per game and is now 47th all-time in school history with 702 career points.

Mogan also leads NKU in assists (23), steals (17) and minutes played per game (34). She is also 41-for-54 (75.9 percent) from the free-throw line this season.

IN THE POST: NKU sophomore center Ellen Holton has scored in double figures five straight games and averages 9.7 points per contest. Holton is shooting 63.4 percent from the field and 88.3 percent from the free-throw line.

FROM LONG RANGE:
NKU junior forward Sadie Bowling leads NKU in 3-pointers made with 12. Bowling also averages 10.6 points per game and has 14 steals.

OFF THE BENCH:
NKU forwards Shanece Miller and Stephanie Hodges are providing the Norse with plenty of offense off the bench. Miller is shooting 70 percent from the field and averages 5.1 points. Hodges has made 56 percent of her field-goal attempts and averages 5.0 points per contest.

LOWDOWN ON NKU: The Norse are 5-1 when leading at halftime this season, and 0-1 when trailing at intermission. NKU's only loss when leading at halftime came against Charleston (W.Va.) on Nov. 19, when the Norse owned a 27-23 advantage at intermission.

NKU has not allowed an opponent to shoot 50 percent from the field through the first seven games.
