RENSSELAER, Ind. - The Northern Kentucky University tennis teams shored up their postseason fates on Friday with a pair of victories over Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Saint Joseph's on Friday. The men took a 9-0 win while the women were victorious by a 6-3 margin.
On the men's side, the Norse (6-6, 2-1 GLVC East ) bowled through the competition, with only
Guillaume Berman even dropping a set in the singles competition. Berman, who has won his last 10 singles matches, teamed with
Lance Koetter to defeat Ishan Gohil and Miguel Belcina, 8-2, running their doubles record to 7-4 on the year.
Koetter joined
Ricardo Weaver,
Tyler Fraser,
Lee Lonergan and
Jimmy Caccamo in claiming singles victories.
The NKU women (7-4, 5-0 GLVC East) saw success come from the bottom of the scoresheet, as the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams each claimed victories, with
Stephanie Isaacs and
Jillian Sturgeon gaining victory over the Pumas' Jordan Orner and Anisha Gohil, 8-5, and
Whitney Thomas and
Jenny Hand edging SJC's Angela Burgeson and Kara Paroubeck, 9-7.
Isaacs, Sturgeon, Hand and
Maggie Koetter were victorious in singles competition as the Norse punched their ticket to next weekend's GLVC Tournament in Springfield, Mo.
The Norse conclude the 2010 regular season on Saturday morning at Lewis.
