HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. –
Amanda Mason scored three goals Sunday afternoon to lead the Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team to a 4-0 win against Kentucky Wesleyan at the NKU Soccer Stadium.
Megan Frye added a goal and an assist for NKU, which improved to 3-0-1 overall, 3-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Claudia Bryant and
Danielle Hogue each recorded a pair of assists for the Norse, who are ranked 15th nationally in the NCAA Division II poll.
Frye, a freshman from Mason, Ohio, started the NKU scoring in the 15th minute by finishing off a rebound shot. Bryant was credited with the assist on Frye's goal.
Mason, a junior and a graduate of Northwest High School in Cincinnati, extended NKU's lead to 2-0 at the 35:40 mark by finding the back of the net in the right post off a throw in by Frye. Mason collected her second goal of the contest just before halftime by sending a shot from 15 yards out past Kentucky Wesleyan goalie Alanna Miller into the net.
NKU owned a 16-0 advantage in shot attempts during the first half and finished with a 27-7 edge in that category.
Mason completed her hat-trick performance in the 63rd minute with a goal that was assisted by Hogue and
Hannah Wissel. Mason finished off a cross on that play to give NKU a 4-0 lead, and the Norse remained perfect (14-0) in the all-time series against Kentucky Wesleyan (1-2, 1-2 GLVC).
NKU returns to action Friday by playing host to Indianapolis at 7:30 p.m. The Norse also entertain Ashland next Sunday at 3 p.m.
