HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. –
Amanda Mason and
Megan Frye each scored second-half goals Friday night as the Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team cruised to a 2-0 win against Indianapolis at the NKU Soccer Stadium.
Laura Painter assisted on Mason's goal at the 53:23 mark for the first score of the contest. Nine minutes later, Frye netted a goal off an assist from
Hannah Wissel to extend the NKU advantage to 2-0.
Rachael Wood recorded the shutout and had four saves for NKU, which improved to 4-0-1 overall, 4-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse are ranked 11th nationally in the NCAA Division II poll.
Despite owning a whopping 15-2 advantage in shots attempts in the first half, NKU could not find the back of the net during the opening 45 minutes of play. Mason, a graduate of Northwest High School in Cincinnati, finally snapped the scoreless game with her fourth goal of the season. Mason split a pair of Indianapolis defenders and converted the shot while being knocked to the ground.
A week ago, Mason netted three goals during a win against Kentucky Wesleyan.
NKU now owns a 15-3-2 lead in the all-time series against Indianapolis. The two teams split a pair of games last year, with Indianapolis winning in the regular season and NKU later claiming a victory during the GLVC Tournament.
NKU plays host to Ashland at 3 p.m. Sunday. The NKU Soccer Complex will be formally dedicated Sunday. The dedication ceremony is set to start at 2 p.m., or approximately 15 minutes after the conclusion of the men's game between NKU and Ashland.
