HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. –
Amanda Mason and
Kelly Sullivan netted first-half goals to key the Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team's 2-0 victory against Ashland on Sunday afternoon.
Rachael Wood collected the shutout and finished with three saves for NKU, which improved to 5-0-1 overall with the non-conference win. The Norse are ranked 11th nationally in the NCAA Division II poll.
Mason gave NKU a 1-0 lead at the 34:03 mark by finishing off a shot that was set up by a
Laura Painter corner kick. It was the fifth goal in the past three games for Mason, a graduate of Northwest High School in Cincinnati.
Sullivan added an insurance goal, her first of the season, at the 37:51 mark off assists from Mason and
Kristi Hofmeyer.
NKU finished with a 22-6 advantage in shot attempts. The Norse now hold an 8-1-1 lead in the all-time series against Ashland (2-3-1) and has won the last six meetings.
NKU hits the road for Kenosha, Wis., on Friday for a Great Lakes Valley Conference showdown with Wisconsin-Parkside. The Norse have won five consecutive games after opening the season with a tie against Findlay.
