HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Kristi Hofmeyer and Danielle Hogue each netted first-half goals as the Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team began Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a 3-0 victory against Southern Indiana on Sunday.

Hofmeyer opened the scoring at the 15:15 mark by taking a cross from Hogue and firing a shot past Southern Indiana goalie Stephanie Bodamer into the upper left corner of the net. Seven minutes later, Hogue extended NKU's advantage to 2-0 by finishing off a rebound shot for her first goal of the season.

Kara Costello capped the NKU scoring in the second half when she chipped a shot into the back of the net off assists from Hannah Wissel and Amanda Mason.

NKU goalie Rachael Wood recorded the shutout and made three saves. The Norse (1-0-1 overall, 1-0 GLVC) finished with a 15-4 advantage in shots and avenged last season's 1-0 loss to Southern Indiana (1-1, 0-1 GLVC) in Evansville, Ind.

NKU owns a 12-4 lead in the all-time series with Southern Indiana. The Norse have won 11 of the past 12 meetings with the Screaming Eagles.

NKU, which is ranked No. 9 nationally in the NCAA Division II preseason poll, hits the road Friday to meet Bellarmine in a GLVC contest at 4 p.m at Louisville, Ky.
