HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Former Northern Kentucky University soccer star Steven Beattie will continue his career into the professional ranks after being chosen by Toronto FC in the first round of the Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft.

Beattie, the 13th overall selection in the MLS Supplemental Draft, follows J.T. Roberts, who was selected by the New England Revolution in the third round of the 1997 MLS College Draft, into the ranks of NKU players turned pro.

Arguably one of the most dominant athletes to ever wear a Norse uniform, Beattie ran roughshod against opposing defenses during his four-year career at NKU, scoring 77 career goals to shatter Chad Scott's previous record of 46 tallies. Beattie also set a school record with 184 points.

Beattie earned recognition twice as the NCAA Division II National Player of the Year, including in 2010, when he scored 26 goals and added 16 assists for 68 points, all single-season records at NKU. His efforts led the Norse to a 20-2-3 record and the program's first-ever national championship.

Beattie was a three-time All-American, a three-time Midwest Region and Great Lakes Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year honoree and a four-time All-GLVC selection.
