CHICAGO – The Northern Kentucky University cross country teams had solid showings at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational, hosted by Loyola-Chicago.

The men's team used an eighth-place finish from J.J. Webber to take eighth-place in the eight-kilometer event, while the women took 13th place in the five-kilometer race.

Webber's time of 25:23 set a new personal record at the eight-kilometer distance and recorded the seventh-best 8k time in school history to pace the Norse harriers.  Webber was followed by Joey Mueller in 36th place at 25:55.

Brendan Chwalek (26:16) in 60th place, Adam Gloyeske (26:27) in 75th and Ricky Harm (26:41) in 104th rounded out the team scoring for the Norse at 244 points.

Toledo took the team trophy on the men's side, claiming three top-10 finishers and a total team score of 55 points.  Edinboro, McMaster, host Loyola and Western Ontario rounded out the top five.  Ben Sathre of St. Thomas (Minn.) took the medal with a time of 24:30.

Other NKU runners included Kevin Bonfield (26:44), Ryne Smith (27:11), Justin McIntyre (27:20), Brad Gloyeske (27:20), Andy Wolfer (27:36), Dan Bell (27:41), Matt Kincaid (27:46), JT Belcher (27:51), Pat McCarty (27:58), Zac Holtkamp (28:18) and Matt Larcomb (29:09).

On the women's side, freshman Kaitlyn Hooper was one of three Norse runners to claim personal bests and include themselves on the school's top 25 list.  Hooper clocked in at 18:58 to finish 76th overall in the individual competition.  The performance ties Alisha Hansman for the ninth-fastest five-kilometer time in NKU history.

Kayla Justice (19:10) followed Hooper in 92nd place with Danielle Mercer (19:11) just a second behind in 97th.  Lindsay Mumley (19:23) in 110th also set a personal best and clocks in at 16th all-time at NKU. Kelly Johnson (19:38) in 132nd rounded out the team scoring for NKU at 428 points, claiming NKU's 18th fastest 5K time as well.

Iowa dominated the team event, placing all five of its scoring runners in the top 10 to take the trophy.  McMaster, Western Ontario, Illinois and host Loyola rounded out the top five.  Toronto's Tamara Jewett took the medal with a time of 17:08.

Other NKU performers included Noelle Reinhart (19:58), Kelsey Gaffney (20:01), Kristyn Hooper (20:04), Coleen McKiernan (20:47) and Clare Field (21:12).

Next weekend the Norse head east for the Carnegie Mellon Invitational in Pittsburgh.
