QUINCY, Ill. - The women's soccer showdown between Northern Kentucky University and Quincy for first place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings turned into a classic battle Friday night.
Allison Ponzer's goal with less than three minutes remaining in the second overtime lifted No. 11 NKU to a 1-0 victory over No. 17 Quincy. Ponzer, a sophomore from Simon Kenton High School, knocked in the winning shot at the 107:28 mark for her ninth goal of the season.
NKU extended its winning streak to nine and improved to 12-1 overall, 10-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse also took sole possession of first place in the GLVC as Quincy dropped to 12-2 overall, 9-2 in the GLVC.

Quincy finished with an 11-10 edge in shots, and each team attempted five corner kicks. Norse goalie

NKU has now beaten Quincy six consecutive times and is 15-3-1 all-time against the Lady Hawks. Quincy had won 10 straight home games going back to last season, when NKU also pulled out a 1-0 overtime victory over the Lady Hawks.
