NKU women's soccer extends winning streak to eight with 2-0 victory at Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS - Amanda Mason scored her conference-leading 13th goal as the Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team posted a 2-0 win over Indianapolis on Sunday.

Kristi Hofmeyer added a goal late in the second half as NKU improved to 11-1 overall, 9-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse, ranked 14th nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, also extended their current winning streak to eight.

Abbey Scherer picked up the assist on Mason's goal at the 40:32 mark with a long pass into the box as NKU took a 1-0 lead. It remained that way until the 86th minute, when Hofmeyer netted her fourth goal of the season off an assist from Mason.

NKU controlled the field, finishing with a 20-5 advantage in shot attempts and a 9-3 edge in corner kicks. Norse goalie Rachael Wood picked up the shutout and made one save.

Indianapolis dropped to 8-4 overall, 6-3 in the GLVC. NKU now holds a 16-3-2 lead in the all-time series against Indianapolis.

Mason now has 47 career goals, which is No. 2 in Norse history. Betsy Moore is the Norse's all-time career leader with 70 goals. Mason also upped her career assists total to 35 and moved past Jeanna Martin (34 assists) for third place in Norse history.

Tricia Ruark is No. 1 in NKU history with 62 career assists.

NKU travels to Quincy, Ill., on Friday to meet Quincy in a GLVC showdown at 6 p.m.
