HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Earlier this season in Evansville, Ind., Northern Kentucky University went outside to sweep past Southern Indiana in straight sets.
On Friday night, NKU's outside attack of seniors
Noelle Peterson (21 kills) and
Sarah Drennen (14 kills, pictured left) again paced the 18th-ranked Norse during a 25-16, 25-23, 17-25, 25-20 win against visiting Southern Indiana. NKU improved to 23-4 overall, 13-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Southern Indiana dropped to 19-9 overall, 13-4 in the GLVC.
Peterson hit .327 and added three blocks for the Norse, while Drennen attacked at a .314 clip. Drennen also finished with 11 digs as NKU limited Southern Indiana to a .206 hitting percentage.
NKU attacked at just a .236 clip for the match, but Peterson, Drennen and
Kelly Morrissey (seven kills, 10 digs and a .353 hitting percentage) helped the Norse overcome the Screaming Eagles.
Prior to the match, Peterson, Drennen and
Kim Nemcek were honored during Senior Night festivities in Regents Hall.
Junior setter
Jenna Schreiver collected a double-double with 49 assists and 10 digs.
Shelby Buschur finished with five blocks and two service aces, while teammate
Jenna Ruble added four blocks.
Kylee Tarantino paced the NKU defense with 18 digs, and she closed out the victory at match point with an ace.
The Norse play their home finale Saturday at 3 p.m. against Kentucky Wesleyan.
