Indianapolis women post 55-44 win over NKU in GLVC showdown Saturday night

INDIANAPOLIS – Nickole Gonser scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the University of Indianapolis cruised to a 55-44 win over Northern Kentucky University on Saturday night.

Kristin Turner added 14 points for Indianapolis, which improved to 5-2 overall, 2-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Greyhounds used an 11-1 run early in the second half to turn a 27-26 deficit into a 37-28 lead when Turner buried a 3-pointer with 12:29 remaining.

After Casse Mogan's basket with 5:07 left cut the Indianapolis lead to 43-37, the Greyhounds responded with back-to-back 3-pointers from Kelly Walter and Turner to extend their advantage to 49-37 and coasted to the victory.

Jaimie Hamlet made four 3-pointers and scored 14 points for NKU, which dropped to 4-2 overall, 1-1 in the GLVC. The Norse and Greyhounds played to a 24-all tie in the first half, but NKU was held to 30 percent shooting from the field during the second 20 minutes of play.

Mogan, who scored a school-record 37 points during a triple-overtime win at Saint Joseph's on Thursday night, finished with 13 points against Indianapolis. Mogan, who upped her career total to 1,181 points, also grabbed six rebounds.

NKU shot 34.9 percent from the field for the game and committed 19 turnovers.

Sydney Weinert added 11 rebounds and five blocked shots for Indianapolis, which won the battle of the boards by a 32-30 margin. The Greyhounds shot 36.5 percent from the field and were 8-for-20 from 3-point range.

NKU is now 42-18 all-time against Indianapolis, but the Greyhounds have won the past two meetings. The Norse own an 18-11 record against the Greyhounds inside Nicoson Hall.

NKU plays host to Georgetown (Ky.) Wednesday at 7 p.m. in The Bank of Kentucky Center.
