Dave Middendorf struck out nine batters, setting a new career mark at NKU, in leading the Norse to a 2-1 victory over Drury on Saturday.

FLORENCE, Ky. –
Brian Erie's two-out single in the bottom of the 12th inning drove in
Brett Cisper and gave the Northern Kentucky University baseball team a 2-1 victory over Drury on Saturday at Florence Freedom Field.
Cisper started the winning rally with two outs by drawing a walk and stealing second base. Erie then singled to right field on a 2-1 pitch, driving in Cisper with the winning run.
NKU starter
Dave Middendorf went 11 innings and struck out nine batters to become the Norse's all-time career leader in that category. Middendorf now has 267 career strikeouts and passed Derrik Moeves, who struck out 259 batters while at NKU.
Middendorf broke Moeves' record in the second inning when Maury Wilmes struck out looking on a 2-2 delivery. The LaSalle High School graduate allowed just four hits and one run in 11 innings on the mound Saturday.
Andy Heston (5-0) pitched one inning in relief and collected the victory in the opener.
In the nightcap, Drury scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to salvage a split of the doubleheader with a 7-5 victory. Caleb Cole's two-run single snapped a 5-all tie and provided Drury with the winning margin.
Bryan Rose went 3-for-5 and scored two runs for NKU in the nightcap, while teammate
Zac Asman also scored a pair of runs.
Shannon McCormick drove in two runs for the Norse, who are 11-7 overall, 1-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Drury is 10-9 overall, 3-3 in the GLVC.
NKU is scheduled to play host to Missouri S&T at noon Sunday.
