The NKU volleyball team is 7-0 for the first time since 1999.
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University volleyball team plays host to Bellarmine in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in Regents Hall.
NKU is 7-0 overall after knocking off 20th-ranked Indianapolis on Saturday afternoon in a five-set thriller. The Norse, now 2-0 in GLVC play, were ranked 24th nationally in last week's poll. The AVCA will release its next national rankings later today.
NKU is 7-0 for the first time since 1999, when NKU advanced to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight.
Bellarmine owns a 5-1 record, and the Knights are 1-1 in the GLVC.
FAST START: If NKU defeats Bellarmine on Tuesday night, the Norse will equal the volleyball program's best-ever start to a season. The 1994 NKU squad began the season 8-0, which is currently the best start in Norse volleyball history.
The 1994 team, led by two-time GLVC Player of the Year Kerry Lewin, finished the season with a 30-3 overall record and as the GLVC Tournament runner-up.
NOT SO FAST: Bellarmine has beaten NKU the last two meetings, including a four-set victory in Louisville last season. Two years ago, the Knights snapped a 33-match losing streak against NKU by pulling out a five-set win over the Norse in Regents Hall. Before that victory, Bellarmine had not defeated NKU since 1992.
NKU is 57-10 all-time against Bellarmine.
GLVC LEADERS: NKU leads the GLVC in hitting percentage (.339) and kills per match (14.61). Norse setter
Jenna Schreiver tops the GLVC in assists (11.74 apg), while
Kim Nemcek is No. 1 in hitting percentage (.485). The Norse's
Shelby Buschur is No. 2 in the GLVC with a .422 hitting percentage.
