EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Make that a perfect 10 for the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team, which remained unbeaten (10-0) with a resounding sweep (25-21, 25-18, 25-16) at Southern Indiana on Saturday afternoon.
Senior outside hitters
Sarah Drennen and
Noelle Peterson combined for 32 kills and a blazing .588 hitting percentage to lead NKU, which took sole possession of first place in the Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division with a 5-0 record. The Norse dominated play at the net, finishing with a .437 hitting percentage and nine team blocks.
Drennen collected 19 kills and attacked at a .531 clip, while Peterson added 13 kills in 21 attempts without an error for a .619 hitting percentage. Junior middle hitter
Shelby Buschur finished with nine kills and hit .471 for the match, while senior middle hitter
Kim Nemcek collected seven kills and attacked at a .636 clip.
Buschur was credited with four blocks, while Nemcek and Peterson finished with three each. The 10-0 start is the best in Norse volleyball history.
Southern Indiana (6-3 overall, 4-1 GLVC) was limited to a .136 hitting percentage and finished with only four blocks. NKU, in fact, converted 53 kills with just eight errors the entire match as setter
Jenna Schreiver continued to flawlessly run the Norse offense.
Schreiver, a junior from Notre Dame Academy, dished out 43 assists and added two solo blocks on Saturday. NKU closed out the match by attacking at a .607 clip in the third set on 18 kills in 28 attempts with just one error.
The Norse defense limited reigning GLVC Player of the Week Danielle LaGrange to a .120 hitting percentage, with nine kills and six errors.
Kylee Tarantino collected 18 digs in the back row for NKU, while teammate
Anna Prickel added 11 digs.
NKU now holds a 35-11 advantage in the all-time series with the Screaming Eagles.
NKU travels north next weekend for matches at Wisconsin-Parkside (Friday) and Lewis (Saturday).
