NKU volleyball sweeps past Cedarville in non-conference action Wednesday night

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – Sarah Drennen and Shelby Buschur combined for 28 kills as the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team posted a 25-22, 25-20, 25-21 victory over Cedarville on Wednesday night.

Drennen finished with 15 kills and hit .345 for NKU, which improved to 11-2 overall with the non-conference road win. Buschur added 13 kills and attacked at a .588 clip for the Norse, who are ranked 18th nationally in the latest NCAA Division II poll.

Gennie Galfano recorded a pair of clutch kills late in the opening set as NKU pulled out a 25-22 victory. Galfano finished with five kills in the match.

Tied at 19-all in the second set, Drennen collected two straight kills to give NKU a 21-19 lead. Buschur and Jenna Schreiver then combined for a block to extend the Norse's advantage to 22-19, and Buschur added a kill to make it 23-19.

Amanda Bell stopped the NKU run by converting an attack, but Buschur and Drennen closed out the set with consecutive kills.

Kim Nemcek finished with seven kills and 10 digs for NKU. Nemcek entered Wednesday's contest No. 2 in the nation in hitting percentage at .500. She attacked at a .357 clip against Cedarville as NKU hit .262 as a team.

Nemcek now has 945 career kills at NKU, and she is looking to become just the 15th player to join the Norse's 1,000-kills club.

Schreiver dished out 40 assists for NKU, while teammate Kelly Morrissey served up three aces. Kylee Tarantino collected 15 digs to pace the defense, which limited Cedarville (10-8) to a .208 hitting percentage.

NKU resumes Great Lakes Valley Conference play Saturday at 5 p.m. when Drury visits Regents Hall.
