NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Molly Spitznagle had 15 kills to lead the Lipscomb University volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-22) victory over Northern Kentucky in Atlantic Sun Conference action on Tuesday night.
The loss dropped NKU to 21-7 overall and 8-6 in A-Sun play. It was NKU's first straight-set loss on the season and the team's first back-to-back losses in its Division I era. Lipscomb improved to 15-10 overall and 12-2 in A-Sun play.
NKU was led by
Haley Lippert, who had 12 kills on the night.
Kelly Morrissey posted her 11th double-double of the season with 11 kills and a team-high 10 digs.
Jenna Schreiver dished out 24 assists on the night and now needs just 25 assists to become NKU's all-time leader in the category.
Kaycee Green added 13 kills for the Lady Bisons while Stephanie Rex paced the defense with 14 digs.
Lipscomb came out blazing in the match, closing out Set 1 on a 9-4 run to take a 25-18 victory. The Lady Bisons hit .364 on the set and collected four blocks. The story stayed the same in Set 2, as Lipscomb won with an identical 25-18 score and again posted a phenomenal .378 hitting percentage.
NKU showed fight in Set 3, claiming their first lead of the match at 11-8. The Lady Bisons responded by posting a 6-0 run to retake the lead. NKU clawed back to gain short-lived one point leads at 16-15 and again at 19-18, but could not overcome the strong Lipscomb attack.
NKU will look to get back to its winning ways in Regents Hall this weekend, hosting Mercer on Friday evening at 7 p.m. On Saturday at 3 p.m., the Norse will host Kennesaw State for Senior Day, and NKU's six seniors will be honored in a special pre-match ceremony.
