KENT, Ohio – Brendan Chwalek claimed Northern Kentucky University's first win on the track this season, setting a school record in the 3,000-meter race at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala.

Chwalek crossed the line in 8:34.18, beating his previous top time by 18 seconds and edging Zach Koehler's 2007 school record by 0.66 seconds.  The performance led a race that saw five NKU runners cross among the top 11 finishers.  J.J. Webber followed Chwalek in fourth place, posting an 8:48.00.  Ricky Harm (9:05.91), Zac Holtkamp (9:10.36) and Andrew Wolfer (9:14.86) took positions 9-11, respectively, with Wolfer's time also marking a personal record.

Josh Makin also set a personal record, taking 16th place in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:02.54.  Jason Zavislak became NKU's first sprint competitor in three seasons with a 7.88 mark in the 60-meter dash.

NKU's inaugural Division I indoor season will resume in earnest on Jan. 18, when NKU competes at the Gladstein Invitational, hosted by Indiana University.
