CARROLLTON, Ga. – Seth McClure only allowed one run in nine innings to give West Georgia an 8-1 victory over Northern Kentucky University on Sunday afternoon.
McClure surrendered seven hits and struck out seven batters in the complete game for the Wolves and improved to 1-1 on the season.
West Georgia took an early 1-0 lead after the second inning. Garrett May hit a three-run home run in the fifth to extend the lead to 4-0.
May went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored to lead the Wolves.
West Georgia took advantage of two errors by NKU in the sixth inning to add another run to the scoreboard.
The Wolves once again scored three runs in the seventh to take an 8-0 lead.
The Norse strung together a series of hits to start the ninth inning.
Brad Clement got the offense started with a single to left field, followed by a
Phil Smith single to center field.
Kris Hecktor singled through the right side to load the bases for NKU. McClure walked
Jake Morris, bringing Clement home for NKU's only run of the game.
Jim Ryan picked up the loss for the Norse. He went three innings and only allowed one run on five hits.
NKU fell to 2-5 with the loss. West Georgia improved to 6-4.
The Norse travel to Columbus, Ga., next weekend for a three-game series against Columbus State.
