NKU baseball keeps win streak alive with 7-3 victory over Southern Indiana on Sunday

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Max Colaner went 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI to lead the Northern Kentucky University baseball team to a 7-3 victory over Southern Indiana on Sunday afternoon to complete the series sweep.

The win extended the Norse win streak to 10 games, and NKU is now 17-9 overall, 10-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Colaner helped put NKU on the scoreboard after the first inning.

He started the inning off with a double to center field and advanced to third as Bradley Vanderglas grounded out.

Brad Clement grounded out at first base, but Colaner was able to score to give the Norse a 1-0 lead.

NKU added four runs in the second inning to extend the lead.

Brett Cisper sparked the Norse offense with a single to center field and scored on a Pat Williams' double.

Stevie Gipson-Eberhardt followed with a single, allowing Williams to score.  He advanced to second on the throw home.

Zac Asman singled down the right field line, and Gipson-Eberhardt advanced to third.

Gipson-Eberhardt scored when Colaner followed with another single down the right field line.

Vanderglas reached on a fielder's choice, and Asman scored on the play for the final run of the inning.

The Norse put additional runs on the scoreboard in both the fourth and fifth innings to give NKU a 7-0 advantage.

Southern Indiana scored three times in the top of the seventh, but Brett Loeding entered the game for the Norse and stopped the rally.

Vanderglas and Williams both added two RBIs for the Norse.

Cody Cooper improved to 3-0 on the season with the win.  He pitched 6 1/3 innings and only allowed two earned runs.

Bryce Shoulders went 2-for-3 with one run and two RBIs to lead the Screaming Eagles.

Southern Indiana fell to 13-12 overall, 4-8 in the GLVC with the loss.

NKU returns to action at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex on Tuesday with a doubleheader against Bellarmine.  The first game is scheduled to begin at noon.
