RENSSELAER, Ind. – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team picked up a 2-1 victory over Saint Joseph's in Game 2 at Gil Hodges Field in Rensselaer, Ind., to earn a doubleheader split on Saturday afternoon.
NKU, which is ranked No. 23 in the latest Collegiate Baseball Newspaper NCAA Division II national poll, is now 27-11 overall, 20-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference with the split.
Brandon Brian scored in the bottom of the fourth inning to give the Pumas a 1-0 lead in the nightcap.
The Norse, however, used a two-run sixth inning to take the lead.
Jake Morris singled to start off the inning for the NKU and advanced to second on a Patrick Hyde sacrifice bunt. He proceeded to steal third.
Max Colaner doubled down the left field line, allowing Morris to score to tie the game. Colaner advanced to second when
Bradley Vanderglas singled through the left side.

Brad Clement double brought Colaner home to seal the victory for the Norse.
Cody Cooper (5-1) earned the win for NKU. He allowed one unearned run on five hits in five innings on the mound. Cooper also collected four strikeouts.
Brett Loeding pitched two innings of relief to earn his 10th save on the season. He struck out three batters.
Zac Asman finished 2-for-4 with two doubles and a stolen base for the Norse.
Saint Joseph's cruised to an 8-3 victory in the opening game.
The Norse took advantage of two errors by the Pumas in the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead.
Saint Joseph's scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning to take the lead and extended the advantage to 3-1 with a run in the third.
The Norse tied the game in the top of the fifth inning.
Morris tripled to right-center to start the inning for NKU and scored when
Brandon Wood singled to left field.
Wood advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Max Colaner and proceeded to third when Vanderglas fouled out to right field.
Clement singled through the left side to bring Wood home for the tying run.
The Pumas scored five runs in the sixth inning, and the Norse were not able to answer.
Morris went 2-for-4 with a run scored to lead NKU.
Saint Joseph's now holds a 13-26 overall record and is 12-14 in the GLVC.
The two teams return to the field tomorrow afternoon for the final two games of the series. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
