HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Two late goals by North Florida lifted the Ospreys to a 3-2 overtime victory over the Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team on Sunday afternoon at the NKU Soccer Stadium.

With just over two minutes remaining in regulation and NKU holding onto a 2-1 lead, Kathryne Husted gained control of a loose ball off a corner kick from Keara Murphy and found the back of the net to force overtime.

Michele Larrinaga scored the Osprey's golden goal with 14 seconds remaining in overtime to seal the win for North Florida, which improved 4-6-1 overall and 2-0 in the Atlantic Sun.  Thea Linkfield sent the ball into the box, and Larrinaga was able to corral the loose ball for the game-winning shot.

NKU (3-7 overall, 0-2 in the Atlantic Sun) struck first and took a 1-0 lead into the half.  Kathryn Hale served the ball to Martha Staab, who beat the defender and Osprey goalie Rachel Beninati for her third goal of the season.

North Florida answered in the 53rd minute whenCarolina Lencina put a rebound shot past NKU goalie Stephanie Glass, who was unable to recover after stopping a shot by Lauren Hopensperger.

Zwergel-UNF-recap
Kelsey Zwergel scored the final Norse goal of the game to give NKU a 2-1 lead by placing a shot over Beninati's head in the 62nd minute.  Allison Ponzer collected her fifth assist of the season on the play.

The Norse had a chance to win the game in overtime, but an offside call interrupted the NKU attack.

“Unfortunately, many of the games have gone this way,” NKU head coach Bob Sheehan said.  “We haven't been able to capitalize on opportunities, and we've given up what eventually becomes the game-winning goal for the other team.

“We've had six losses by one goal, and in each of those games we've felt like we had opportunities to win the game, but they haven't gone our way. So obviously the team is disappointed and frustrated. So we just have to continue to work hard and move forward.”

The Norse offense poured in 12 shots, led Zwergel's five attempts while Staab and Hannah Adams each added two shots.  Glass made eight saves in goal for NKU.

The Norse travel to DeLand, Fla., on Friday night to face Stetson.  Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
