KETTERING, Ohio – The Northern Kentucky University men's golf team finished in 11th place at the 2013 Dayton Flyer Invitational, played at the par-71 NCR Country Club, on Tuesday.
NKU finished the two-day event with a total score of 595 after carding rounds of 288-307.
Western Kentucky, which started the day in a tie for second place, earned the team title after shooting rounds of 288-278 for a total of 566. The Hilltoppers defeated second place Cleveland State (284-295 579), which began the round in first, by 13 strokes.
Corey Richmond,
Clayton Portz and
Matthew Wetherill led the Norse with totals of 146 and a share of 20th place. Richmond shot rounds of 70-76, while Portz turned in scores of 72-74. Wetherill carded rounds of 71-75 over the two days.
Michael Schmidt and
Zach Wright rounded out NKU's team score. Schmidt's two-day total of 157 on rounds of 75-82 earned him a share of 82nd place. Wright finished in 92nd place after shooting rounds of 78-83 for a total score of 161.
Cleveland State's Andrew Bailey finished 4-over-par with a two-round total of 136 (67-69) to capture the individual medal. He finished three strokes ahead of Western Kentucky's Trey Aguirre (73-66), Evansville's Alex Turner (69-70) and Western Kentucky's Cameron Beal (69-70), who tied for second place with total scores of 139.
NKU ends its fall schedule at the Cobra-Puma Invitational, hosted by Xavier, Oct. 27-29, at the Miromar Lakes Golf Course in Fort Myers, Fla.
