Jacksonville holds off NKU in five sets

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Kylie Jacob slammed down five of her 19 kills in the fifth set Friday night to lead Jacksonville to a 21-25, 25-22, 25-19, 22-25, 15-10 win over Northern Kentucky in Regents Hall.

Jacob converted all five of her attacks in the final set for Jacksonville, which upped its overall record to 20-2. The Dolphins – who hit a blistering .545 in the fifth set - are tied with East Tennessee State atop the Atlantic Sun Conference standings with a 10-1 record.

Northern Kentucky (8-16 overall, 3-8 A-Sun) trailed just 7-6 in the fifth set, but Jacksonville scored three straight points to extend its advantage to 10-6. Jacob, who attacked at a .516 clip for the match, dropped in a kill later in the set to make it 14-9. Alyssa Robertson ended the contest by converting an attack to give the Dolphins a 15-10 victory.

Jenna Ruble led Northern Kentucky with 15 kills, while Megan Wanstrath added 13 kills. Taylor Snyder recorded her 14th double-double with 55 assists and 11 digs. Snyder and Ruble each had five blocks for the Norse, who hit .189 for the match.

Keely Creamer attacked at a .409 clip and added 12 kills for the Norse, while Tristen Simpson finished with 11 kills. Anna Prickel collected 16 digs to lead the Northern Kentucky defense.

Robertson, the reigning A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week, finished with eight blocks for Jacksonville, while Jacob added five. The Dolphins served up six aces for the match and evened the all-time series with the Norse at 2-2.

Earlier this season, Jacksonville defeated Northern Kentucky in four sets.

Northern Kentucky plays host to North Florida at 3 p.m. Saturday. The match Saturday will feature the "Fall-O-Ween" Kids' Club event beginning at 2 p.m. Pre-match festivities will include pumpkin carving, face painting and lots of candy.
