HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Ashni Deschenes' goal with less than three minutes remaining in regulation gave Stetson a 2-1 victory over Northern Kentucky in women's soccer play Sunday afternoon at the NKU Soccer Stadium.
With the score tied at 1-all, Deschenes sent an 18-yard shot past Northern Kentucky goalie
Tanner Ruberg into the back of the net at the 87:17 mark. Mara Keomanivane and Paige Law were credited with assists on the goal.
"Give credit to the other team. They fought and battled," Northern Kentucky head coach
Bob Sheehan said. "They were down 1-0 and came out with a 2-1 victory, so credit them for battling on the road. It's tough when you are on your fourth day on the road coming from Florida, and in the 88th minute, they scored the game-winner."

Stetson improved to 4-6-2 overall, 2-1-1 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Northern Kentucky is 4-8-1 overall, 0-4-0 in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
Abbey Scherer gave Northern Kentucky a 1-0 lead at the 36:01 mark with her first career goal, a shot that sailed over the outstretched hands of Stetson goalie Victoria Troccoli.
Allison Ponzer assisted Scherer's goal.
"We scored off a restart, which is really important to us," Sheehan said. "Abbey provided quality service, and it was great to see Abbey score the goal."
Stetson responded five minutes later when Danielle Hurme headed in a shot that was assisted by both Amber Grose and Carmen Bernecker.
Northern Kentucky controlled the field much of the contest and finished with a 10-4 edge in corner kicks. The Norse owned a 13-8 advantage in total shot attempts, four of those on goal.
"I thought we had some good chances," Sheehan said. "(
Allison Ponzer) was in behind on a breakaway.
Sam Davis was in behind on a breakaway, and Sam had another shot that was about eight to 10 yards out.  We have to be able to put our chances away.  I thought early we had opportunities to score several goals, and we have to do better in the final third."
A year ago, the Norse posted a 1-0 road win at Stetson. The series is now tied at 1-1.
Northern Kentucky returns to action Friday night with a road contest at North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla. The Norse conclude the trip Sunday by playing at Jacksonville.
