NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lauren Ford posted 18 kills and attacked at a .366 clip to lead the Lipscomb University volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-13,16-25,25-17,25-23) victory over Northern Kentucky University in Atlantic Sun Conference play on Tuesday.
Jayden Julian led NKU (6-12, 1-5 A-Sun) with 11 kills and 12 digs to post her fifth double-double of the season.
Taylor Snyder also had a double-double, her 10th of the year, with 36 assists and 10 digs. Jewell Dobson added 16 kills and Caitlin Dotson matched her nation-leading pace with 50 assists for Lipscomb, which improved to 10-6 overall and 4-2 in the A-Sun.
Sophie Kellerman had three of her nine kills on the match to punctuate a 10-4 match-opening run en route to a 25-13 Set 1 victory. The Norse regrouped in Set 2, and the teams battled point-for-point to a 14-14 score before NKU ripped off an 11-2 run to close out a 25-16 victory.
Jenna Ruble opened the run with a pair of blocks and ended it with the set point kill, one of her nine on the match.
Set 3 was another battle of attrition, with the teams again matching each other point-for-point to a 14-14 score before Lipscomb rolled the 11-3 set-closing run, with all three of NKU's points in the run coming on service errors.
An early 8-2 run keyed by a pair of blocks from Julian and
Keely Creamer led to a 14-10 advantage for the Norse in Set 4. The Lady Bisons continued to fight, however, chipping away at the Norse lead with a 6-3 run of their own. The Norse pushed back with a pair of points on a
Megan Wanstrath kill followed by an assisted block from Ruble and Snyder to make it a 19-16 Norse lead. Ford came back with a side-out point and back-to-back attack errors from the Norse leveled the score at 19-19.
Dobson got a kill to give Lipscomb the lead for good at 22-21, and later pushed it to match point for Ford to get the evening's final kill.
The Norse return home to host Kennesaw State and Mercer at Regents Hall this weekend. Friday is Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night, and all NKU faculty and staff will receive free admission by presenting an NKU All Card. Saturday's match against Mercer is Junior Norse Day, all kids aged 12 and under will receive free admission to the match.
