ETSU takes 3-1 victory over NKU volleyball

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Meredith Hardy had 17 kills and attacked at a .571 clip to lead the East Tennessee State volleyball team to a 27-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-16 victory over Northern Kentucky University on Saturday afternoon in Atlantic Sun Conference action.
 
Megan Devine also added 17 kills and a team-high 18 digs and Ivey Rice had 13 kills for the Buccaneers, who improved to 21-7 overall and 15-1 in A-Sun play.  Hardy and Khadija Wiley each had five blocks for ETSU, which outblocked NKU by a 12-9 margin.
 
NKU (11-18, 6-10 A-Sun) had three in double-digits for kills, led by Jenna Ruble, who had 13 kills and four blocks.  Jayden Julian had 12 kills and Megan Wanstrath added 11.  Anna Prickel totaled 25 digs, giving her 1,223 digs in her career to pass Amber Timmons for seventh all-time at NKU.
 
NKU used a 4-0 run to jump out to a 16-13 lead in Set 1 and appeared to be cruising to a Set 1 win before ETSU battled back, ending the set on a 7-2 run to take a 27-25 win.  NKU again got up early in Set 2, extending to a 12-6 lead before ETSU rolled on a 19-5 run to take the Set, 25-17.
 
Again, NKU took control in Set 3, racing out to a 10-5 lead, this time holding on for the 25-23 set win.  ETSU chipped away, tying the score at 23-23 before a bad set gave NKU set point for Julian to knock home.
 
The Buccaneers responded in Set 4, taking an 18-4 lead, including seven kills by Devine, en route to a 25-16 set victory to take the match.
 
NKU returns home for the final two matches of the 2013 season, taking on Florida Gulf Coast on Friday at 6 p.m. before concluding the year on Saturday against Stetson at 3 p.m.
