HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Northern Kentucky plays host to Hampton at 7 p.m. Wednesday in The Bank of Kentucky Center. The Norse are 2-7 after posting an 87-71 win over Chattanooga on Sunday. Hampton enters the game with a 5-5 overall record.
ABOUT THE PIRATES: Senior forward Du'Vaughn Maxwell averages 14.4 points and 6.6 rebounds per game for Hampton. Sophomore guard Deron Powers is scoring 12.7 points per contest for the Pirates, who have won three straight games after defeating Bethune-Cookman, 85-52, on Dec. 9.
Northern Kentucky owns a 1-0 lead in the all-time series with Hampton. On Dec. 20, 2012, the Norse pulled out a 54-52 win over the Pirates in Hampton, Va. That was also the Norse's first victory as a Division I program.
TORRID NORSE: Northern Kentucky shot 66.7 percent from the field against Chattanooga, including 70.8 percent in the second half. It marked the first time the Norse had shot at least 60 percent from the field since Feb. 12, 2012. The Norse used a 19-0 run to seal the game after the break, extending a 48-45 edge into a 67-45 lead.
Tyler White ignited the decisive spurt for the Norse by draining a pair of 3-pointers.
JACKSON HONORED: Norse junior guard
Jordan Jackson was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Newcomer of the Week Monday. Jackson scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds during Northern Kentucky's victory over Chattanooga on Sunday. He also added three steals and three assists as the Norse cruised to the non-conference win.
Jackson averages a team-leading 13.9 points per game and is shooting 54.1 percent from the field. A native of St. Paul, Minn., Jackson also leads the Norse with 13 steals and averages 3.1 assists per game.
SUPER BALANCE: Northern Kentucky placed six players in double figures during the win on Sunday. Jackson led the way with 16 points,
Jalen Billups and
Anthony Monaco each added 12, while
Dean Danos,
Tyler White and
Jake Giesler all scored 10. The Norse had not placed six players in double figures since Jan. 7, 2012 (a 91-59 win over Rockhurst in The Bank of Kentucky Center).
CAREER GAMES: Norse sophomore
Anthony Monaco's 12 points against Chattanooga were a career best.
Jake Giesler also established his career high in points with 10 during that victory.
Dean Danos grabbed a career-high four rebounds on Sunday and tied his career best with three assists.
CONFERENCE LEADERS: NKU sophomore forward
Jack Flournoy continues to lead the Atlantic Sun Conference in 3-point shooting at 51.6 percent. Flournoy is shooting 16-for-31 from long range and averages 6.7 points per game.

NAVY UP NEXT: Navy visits The Bank of Kentucky Center at noon Saturday to play Northern Kentucky. Navy is 5-4 entering that game. A year ago, the Norse defeated the Midshipmen, 55-46, in Annapolis, Md. Saturday will also be Military Appreciation Day, presented by the Kentucky National Guard.
In addition, Lieutenant Commander
John Hiltz, a native of Fort Mitchell, Ky., and a member of the Blue Angels, will be in attendance and sit on the Navy bench as an honorary coach. Hiltz is also a Covington Catholic High School graduate.
