NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Jordan Hammerman went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a home run to lead the Saint Louis University baseball team to a 5-3 victory over Northern Kentucky University on Sunday at Shelby Park.

Saint Louis (4-2) scored two runs in the top of the second inning to take an early lead over NKU.

With one out, Grant Nelson reached base when Conor Ledger misplayed the ball in the outfield, and Nelson advanced to second on the play.

Mike Vigliarolo fouled out to catcher Pat Hyde, bringing Hammerman to the plate.  Hammerman sent a shot that just cleared the wall in right center to give the Billikens a 2-0 lead.

Back-to-back home runs almost in the same spot over the left field wall by Alex Kelly and Braxton Martinez with two outs extended the advantage to 4-0 after the top of the third.

NKU (1-6) cut into the Saint Louis lead and added a run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning.

Zac Asman set up the scoring play after drawing a walk.  He advanced to second on a groundout by Ledger.

Clement singled to center field to bring Asman home, stretching his hit streak to seven games.

The Billikens took advantage of another Norse miscue in the top of the seventh inning, adding an insurance run on a throwing error by Brett Loeding.

NKU threatened in the eighth and pulled to within two runs. Asman reached base after being hit by a Nick Bates pitch and went to second on a single to right-center field by Ledger.

After a pitching change, Clement doubled to right field, bringing Asman home and sending Ledger to third. Ledger scored on a groundout by Josh Myers to cut the Saint Louis advantage to 5-3.  Cody Cooper ended the Norse attack with a strikeout.

Bates improved to 1-1 with the win after only allowing three hits and striking out five batters in 7 1/3 innings of work.

Clement and Ledger finished 2-for-4 to lead the Norse, and Clement collected two RBI.

Loeding pitched four innings of relief for the Norse and collected two strikeouts and only surrendered one hit.

NKU travels to San Marcos, Texas, to face Texas State for a three-game series starting on Friday.  First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m.
