HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team will return to Texas for the second time the season for a three-game series against Texas State at the Bobcat Ballpark in San Marcos, Texas.
NKU enters the weekend with 1-6 record after capturing its first win as an NCAA Division I program over Saint Louis on Friday, but the Norse dropped games to Northwestern and Saint Louis to close out the weekend.
Saint Louis took an early 3-0 lead in the first game of the weekend, but the Norse took advantage of two Billiken errors to tie the game in the sixth inning. After seven scoreless innings,
Josh Myers and
Brad Clement scored in the 14th for the 5-3 victory.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Eastern on Friday night. The game on Saturday is set for 5 p.m., followed by a noon start on Sunday. NKU and Texas State have never met in baseball.

ABOUT TEXAS STATE: Texas State is 2-6 on the season after falling to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday, 7-3, in its second road game of the season.
Cody Lovejoy leads the Bobcat offense with a .364 batting average. He has three runs, two RBIs and one double on the season. Lovejoy has three stolen bases in five attempts for Texas State.
Taylor Black (0-1) has a 0.60 earned run average over two starts for the Bobcats. He has struck out 13 batters, second only to Kyle Finnegan (1-0, 2.45 ERA), in 15 innings of work. Black has only surrendered one earned run on five hits.
LOEDING STRIKES: Brett Loeding pitched 10 2/3 innings of relief over two games the weekend and improved to 1-1 on the year Friday. He struck out two batters over 6 2/3 scoreless innings on the mound to earn his first win of the season against Saint Louis.
On Sunday, Loeding only surrendered one hit in four innings. He collected two strikeouts, including the 100th strikeout of his career with NKU. Last season, he finished with 95 strikeouts in a school-record 40 appearances out of the bullpen for the Norse.
Loeding leads the team with a 0.71 ERA, and he has only allowed one earned run and one extra-base hit this season.
CONSISTENT CLEMENT: After recording the first NKU hit in its Division I history, a home run in the first game of the season against Lamar, Clement played an important role in the first win as well. With the score tied 3-3 in the top of the 14th inning and Myers on second, Clement singled to left field to advance Myers to third base.
Clement went to second and Myers scored on an error to take a 4-3 lead. Clement scored on a
Conor Ledger single to secure the win for the Norse.
Clement leads NKU offensively with a .414 batting average. He has collected a hit in each of NKU's seven games and has recorded five RBIs and five runs on the year.
MAKING MISCUES HURT: The Norse have mad the opposing teams pay for miscues so far this season. Nine errors have resulted in eight runs for NKU, including all five against Saint Louis on Friday. In the third game against Lamar,
Ryan LeFevers advanced to third and scored on consecutive wild pitches to cut the Cardinal lead to 5-3.
