CINCINNATI – The outdoor season started out very well for the Northern Kentucky University men's track & field team. The Norse finished in sixth place at the Early Bird Relays held at the University of Cincinnati.

Freshman Jason Zavislak may have found a new calling on the team in the javelin competition. He placed sixth in the event with a mark of 40.50 meter in his first ever collegiate competition in the event.

“Jason is usually a long jumper or triple jumper for us.  He came through and did a great job in the javelin,” said head coach Steve Kruse. “He found a new event to work on this season so I was real happy that he did well in that.”

J.J. Webber had a pair of career bests and seventh-place finishes in the 800-meter and 1500-meter events. He ran a 1:58.48 in the 800-meter and a 3:59.43 in the 1500-meter. Webber also teamed up with Brenden Chwalek, Matt Kincaid, and Erik Tomczewski for an eighth-place finish and time of 3:39.49 in the 4x400-meter relay.

Ricky Harm ran a personal best in the 5000-meter with a time of 15:19.63. His 12th-place finish impressed head coach Steve Kruse.

“He just continues to lower his time every time he is on the track,” said Kruse. “He is going to have a really good outdoor season.”

The Norse were able to put together a solid performance to kick off the outdoor season. The next contest for NKU will be March 22nd at the University of Alabama.
