SAN MARCOS, Texas – When a program is transitioning to NCAA Division I status, there are going to be growing pains along the way.

Today was one of those days for the Northern Kentucky University baseball team, as it dropped a 13-0 decision to Texas State at the Bobcat Ballpark.

Texas State (3-7) plated eight runs in the first inning to jump out to the early lead.  The Bobcats added three runs in the third and two the next inning to cruise to the victory.

The Norse struggled to get the offense going and were limited to one hit on the day, which came in the top of the fifth inning.

With two outs, Pat Hyde drew a walk and Brandon Wood singled up the middle to send Hyde to second.  The NKU chance at a run was spoiled when Caleb Lonkard grounded out.

Morgan Mickan finished 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBIs and two walks for the Bobcats.  Kevin Sah went 3-for-5 and collected two runs and an RBI.

Taylor Black improved to 1-1 on the season for Texas State with the complete-game victory.  He struck out 10 batters and only walked three.

Relief pitchers Mike Derby and Drew Campbell combined for 3 2/3 scoreless innings on the mound for the Norse.  Derby only surrendered one hit and recorded one strikeout after replacing starting pitcher Brett Cisper after only 1/3 of an inning of work.

NKU (2-7) will face Texas State in the final game of the series Sunday at noon.
