NKU men claim strong finishes at Bluegrass Classic

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The men's track & field team of Northern Kentucky University claimed several top finishes this past weekend at the Heart of the Bluegrass Track and Field Classic, hosted by the University of Kentucky.
 
Jason Zavislak had a day for the history books, as he set two different NKU records. He first broke a two-year-old record in the javelin with a third-place finish and mark of 49.96 meters. This shattered the previous record by 5.4 meters. Zavislak continued his outstanding outing with a first-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 7.03 meters. This bested the previous school record by 0.7 meters.
 
Brendan Chwalek showed his class with a third-place finish in the 5000 meter. He set a personal best with a time of 14:57.80.
 
The Norse shined in the 3000-meter steeplechase behind the performances of Brady Holmer and Tyler Mowery. Holmer finished in second place and set a personal best with a time of 10:01.31. Mowery finished just behind Holmer in third with a personal best time of 10:04.99.
 
The Norse look to end the regular season on a high note as they travel to Louisville, Ky., on April 27 to compete in the Bellarmine Classic. The meet will be the final tune-up for the Norse before the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships in Jacksonville, Fla., May 10-11.
