HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Northern Kentucky University men's golf team began its season with a 13th-place finish at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invite on Tuesday.

NKU posted a three-round total of 892 with rounds of 294-300-298 at the par-71 Guyan Golf and Country Club.

Richmond captured the team title with a score of 855 (287-277-291), which was three strokes better than second-place Cincinnati (279-287-292 858) and Eastern Kentucky (294-285-279 858).

Michael Schmidt led the Norse with a two-day total of 214 after carding rounds of 69-75-70.  He finished tied for 14th place.  Corey Richmond tied for 46th with a score of 223 (74-75-74), while Matthew Wetherill finished two strokes back with a total of 225 (77-71-77).  Wetherill finished tied for 55th place.

Phoenix Ramsey and Zach Wright rounded out the team scoring for NKU.  Ramsey carded a total of 232 (75-80-77), and Wright shot a 241 (76-79-86).

Richmond's Danny Pizetoski earned the individual medal. He shot rounds of 68-69-70 for a 6-under par total of 207. Pizetoski edged William & Mary's Alex Hicks (68-67-73 208) and Marshall's Clarke Robinson (68-70-70 208), who was competing as an individual, by one stroke.

The Norse return to action Sept. 16-17, when they participate in the John Piper Intercollegiate, hosted by Bowling Green State, at the Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green, Ohio.
