ROCHESTER, Mich. – Joan Sieja and Meghan Reynolds scored first-half goals Friday night as Oakland (Mich.) snapped Northern Kentucky's winning streak at three with a 2-1 victory against the Norse.
Jamie Horne collected an assist as Oakland improved to 3-3-1 overall and defeated Northern Kentucky (3-3-1) for the second straight year. The Grizzlies built a 2-0 lead in the first 13 minutes of the contest as Reynolds and Sieja found the back of the net.
Allison Ponzer sliced the Oakland advantage to 2-1 in the 80th minute with her third goal of the season off an assist from
Maria Silbersack. Oakland finished with an 18-13 edge in shot attempts and owned a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Northern Kentucky entered Friday's contest having defeated Tennessee Tech, Morehead State and Canisius for its first three-game win streak as a Division I program.
Northern Kentucky returns home Sunday to meet Youngstown State at noon at the NKU Soccer Stadium. The Sunday Funday Bingo will be played during the Youngstown State game with the winner receiving an NKU t-shirt and a Toppers Pizza coupon.
Sunday's contest against Youngstown State will also be Camper Appreciation Day and kids wearing camp t-shirts receive free admission, with parents and guests receiving $1 admission. In addition, Sunday is Junior Norse Day, and all kids 14-and-under receive free admission. Player and coaches will sign autographs on the field after the game.
